birthday month

Welcome to February, also known as Alexa's birthday month.   I don't know why I like to milk my birthday for all they're worth... It might have something to do with my birthdays growing up. Okay it has everything to do with my birthdays growing up.  In our household birthdays were a day to celebrate, a reason to get dressed up and get taken out for dinner, or to throw an epic make-over party or in the case of my younger brother a dinosaur themed shin-dig.   My mom always made a point of giving us a day to be in the limelight.
For my 16 birthday my mom organised a surprise party for me, and surprised I was.  I never ever expected it. All my friends bombarded me with balloons.   Years previous to this I had a make-over party where my mom's friend came over and curled every ones hair.   For the ultimate girlie girl this was a dream come true.
I remember my earliest very favourite birthday present was a dress set from my Grandma that was white and flowy, with pink flowers on it with a matching hat.  I loved that dress, and probably wore it for weeks straights.
Now that I am turning 24 (eeek!)  birthdays have changed their shape a little.  The past few years it has come down to a dinner out with friends, and a birthday card in the mail from my parents.   Both of these things I love and value.  This year I have tried to organise an event that would be a salute to birthday past, ie a costume party or a dance party (which really means "just dance")  However life has happened and it doesn't look like at this point this dream of mine will come true.    Ultimately I would love nothing more than to have the people I care about gathered together under one roof having a good time. That would be my ideal birthday party.   Regardless of what happens to ring in 24, I have a feeling it is going to be a great year, and I think that a good attitude is a good place to start in seeing that through.

So happy February everyone!
